The Machine Has No Tradition
A week-long intensive seminar on the philosophy of technology.
The Machine Has No Tradition is a week-long intensive seminar on the philosophy of technology, co-taught each summer with Nathan Pinkoski and Mary Harrington at Harvard. It is intended for graduate students, advanced undergraduates, young professionals, and early-career scholars.
The seminar takes its title from the observation that modern technology is uniquely self-justifying and tradition-dissolving — and asks what this means for politics, family, faith, and the good life. Across a week of close reading and discussion, participants work through classic and contemporary texts on technology and the human person.
Past guest speakers have included Matthew Crawford, Andy Crouch, and Erica Bachiochi.
Applications typically open in the spring. To be notified, email askonas@cua.edu with a short note about your background and interest.
